You should taco look at this.

Revealed as long ago as July 2012, Gucamelee is and action platformer in the Castlevania/Metroid vein, and has been lauded as a “Metroid-vania” style action platformer set in a magical Mexican-inspired world.
The game draws inspiration for its unique story and characters from traditional Mexican culture and folklore. Guacamelee builds upon the classic open-world Metroid-vania style of games by adding a strong melee combat component, a new dimension-switching mechanic, and co-operative same-screen multiplayer for the entire story. Many of the player’s moves are needed for both combat and platforming, blurring the boundaries between the two styles of gameplay.

Drinkbox Studios, who were behind the hugely impressive Mutant Blobs Attack have also given us a launch trailer and a few screens.

Drinkbox also gave us a few crucial pieces of information. You play as Luchador, and you have to fight your way through parallel worlds of both the living and the dead, and you will unlock new parts of the world as you gain new moves as you strive to rid the world of the undead menace and wipe it out at the source.

PS3 players will be able to play Co-op and use the PS Vita as controller, which displays the map at all times and the game will benefit from cross save, so you can take it on the go with you. We will chase up whether it will also feature cross buy. The game will also feature a platinum trophy!

What do you think? Personally I love the art style and think that this is another example of a quality title coming to the Vita, and it’s due out “in the spring”, but I’m sure we will find the date out soon enough.

  • That opening sentence is very cheesy, and corny.

    I like it.

Looks pretty cool. Mutant Blobs Attack is a FANTASTIC 2D platformer so I will try anything from those guys.

I do have to say though that as much as I like the art style, I worry a little that it may fall into the same trap as Mutant Blob did (ie: not really distinguishing itself graphically from a $1.99 iOS title).

    Great pun 😀

    • I try. Was a bit too obvious really. 😛

  • Punk

Ha ha great pun! I’ve heard they’re releasing this on the PS Fajita

I played this game at both ComicCon NY and CES 2013 and it is as good as they say it is. Blobs was a great game and I am looking forward to this one!
