Another one for Rocktober….

As you may or may not know, the next in the Batman: Arkham series has just been announced. While the full experience is being reserved for the consoles, the Vita isn’t completely missing out, as Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate has also been announced.

Little is known about the title so unfortunately we don’t have any screenshots yet, but sources tell us i will be a 2.5D, Metroid inspired adventure. If it reaches the heights of this classic series I’m sure it will be a lot of fun. The only slightly worrying bit of information that came with it is the same title will be hitting the 3DS. Let’s hope it uses the full potential of the Vita and doesn’t have washed out, grainy textures like the lazy ports that are the Lego series of games.

The game is dated for 25th October, developed by Armature Studios, who recently collaborated with Kojima Productions and Bluepoint Games in  a rather brilliant port in Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection.

I'm 27 years old, and have been playing games for 20 years now, ever since Sonic and Alex Kidd on the master system. I love most types of games but I have a particular passion for music games and racing games, though Final Fantasy VII is and probably always will by my all time favourite as it's the only computer game to ever make me cry!
  • Cool! I’d hoped the Vita had gotten the console game, though.

I’m with Jasper about the Vita getting the console game, but it’s better than nothing.

With this being made from former Retro employees, it could be something good.

I 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th that thought. If we do get a 3DS port it had better be optimized to take advantage of the Vita’s power. Great news nonetheless!

I WANT it to be optimized, but I think we will likely get a straight port (or as straight as they can without the second screen). That’s nothing against the devs, just the cost/benefit of large-scale reprogramming probably isn’t in out favor here.

Unless, of course, Vita sales ramp up dramatically between now and, say, June when the decision could still be made to flesh out the Vita version more.

  • As a massive fan of the first Arkham title (not got around to the second one) this is great news, even if it is a tie in rather than a full 3D experience. Hopefully it will be good anyway. 🙂

Your news post was better than mine too 😛

Console game wouldn’t fit on Vita’s 4gb card – hopefully we get a better version than 3DS though

    • JonofPDX

I really think this, more than any other factor, was why they decided to port the 3DS game rather than the console game. Sony’s memory strategy hurts them again.

  • Anthony Brinklow

Vita is the lead development platform for this title, using the All-Stars engine – so 3DS will get a downgraded port rather than we get an upscaled port!
