Try and wriggle out of this one.

Team17 is hard at work on the next title in the series and it’s shaping up mighty fine. The first thing you’ll notice from the screenshots is it’s now 2.5D (2D playing field but 3D effect), but Bethany Aston reels off a huge amount of features that will no doubt please fans:

Worms Revolution Extreme features an extensive single player campaign spanning 47 missions and 25 puzzles to beat and complete. Missions are set amongst a variety of different environment themes including: SewerFarmyardSpookyBeachMarsFunfair or Medieval!

Worms has always been great with friends, or enemies! With Worms Revolution Extreme that’s no different as you’re able to take part in local or online multiplayer battles for up to four players! Choose from one of three game modes: DeathmatchForts and Classic and getting firing those Bazookas!

New for PS Vita (and PS3) is the cool Cross-Gifting feature, Treasure Mode! This all new mode enables you to link up with your friends who have a PS3 system (or vice versa). You can help each other unlock 10 special gifts using a lock and key system. Meet the requirements in either offline Versus or online battles to receive a key and connect to a friend’s PlayStation 3 system with the corresponding chest to unlock the treasure!

We’ve also utilised the PS Vita’s touch screen controls and added in the ability to use the front touch screen to select items and zoom the camera and the back touch screen to aim your weapons. And with Worms Revolution Extreme you’re able to keep your worms close and mobile using Cross-Platform Continuation Play! This allows players to carry on their PlayStation 3 save game progress on their PS Vita, or vice versa.

Sound good? We think so too, definitely not a quite port and the touch screen features sound like they will help things. It’s down for a fairly vague Q3 release this year and as ever we’ll update you when we have more.

I'm 27 years old, and have been playing games for 20 years now, ever since Sonic and Alex Kidd on the master system. I love most types of games but I have a particular passion for music games and racing games, though Final Fantasy VII is and probably always will by my all time favourite as it's the only computer game to ever make me cry!
  • Awesome! I can’t to play this online with others! 🙂

Good old fun time with worms… 🙂

  • Lester Paredes

Ah, good old Worms, You never disappoint. Unless you’re playing against the computer and their PERFECT AIM!

  • Anthony Brinklow

Looking forward to this, it could be an amazing online game for Vita as long as the ‘touch controls’ mentioned are things like back touch = pans the level, rather than touch movement and aiming because touch screen worms is shockingly bad.

Oh, geez…. I could lose a LOT of time playing this game. Worms Open Warfare 2 was my single most played game on the NDS, and this title will be abused and brought to its knees, especially now that there’s online multiplayer to work with. I just hope the game isn’t expensive to download.
