After what seemed like an eternity – it has been nearly a month – we have managed to get online, albeit on a new domain. This .net suffix will be our home for the foreseeable future, but that will be the only difference!
We have had a few troubles this year, with the RAID card on our old server failing and the result being that we lost a week of work. Because of our hosting plan, the site shared an IP address with other sites and this IP got blacklisted, which made it quite difficult to speak to some PR teams, which obviously didn’t help us in our aims but the real issue was the removal of our index page multiple times, and then the site reverting to a month old earlier state.
This was the final straw and so we took to switching hosting companies, but you would not believe the difficulties we have had in switching a domain that we own to another provider, and with every day going by that we weren’t up, it was a day further that we had to catch up. A combination of real life, technical complications and being let down many times over I decided to not risk any further loss and get everything on a new domain. Luckily we had a backup of the site from hours before the site reverted so we haven’t actually lost any content, but we have lost the thing that matters the most to us – our readers.
I cannot apologise enough for what has happened, the reality is that we do not know what actually happened. We suspect that it was a server side intrusion into the site, but we are reliably informed that it could also have been done by a piece of malicious code programmed to remove our index page, but none of this explains why our host installed the July 11th backup to the site – a backup that nobody associated with The Vita Lounge had. Our old host would have had to have done this, and at no point did they tell us why or even tell us anything.
But this is all water under the bridge, and now we are back and we have a lot to catch up with. We need to get up to speed with Gamescom, which will probably be in one feature. We have many reviews to catch up with from the last few weeks and this week, which will (hopefully) get up to date and culminate in our Killzone Mercenary Review. We will have some competitions too for those of you that love prizes, so stay tuned for that!
But again, I want to thank you all. Vita owners are the reason I started this site, because there is Vita news, and the Vita is only going to get stronger. The messages we have got from Twitter and my other ventures on the internet show that we have been missed and we will try our best to make sure that this doesn’t happen again. We weren’t the first Vita fansite, and certainly won’t be the last but we do bring you more news and reviews than anyone else and will continue to do so.
And finally, we may still have a few issues from switching the domain over, if you see/find anything wrong then please let us know in the comments so that we can fix it! Please change any bookmarks you have and remember to tell your Vita owning friends about us. We aren’t going anywhere. 🙂
