Official word that Sega Sammy Holdings (Sega’s parent company) has acquired Index Corporation (Atlus’ parent company).

According to a press release issued this morning, Index Corporation has been bought by Sega Sammy Holdings for ¥14 billion (about $141 million USD). The fact that Sega Sammy Holdings’ creation left both Sega and Sammy as running separate entities under their umbrella means Atlus may remain an intact entity instead of folding into one of their divisions. This good news seems to follow with what Altus’ US branch stated earlier however; that they will be “unaffected” by the Japan proceedings.

Atlus is the company behind the Shin Megami Tensei series as well as the popular Persona offshoot.

let us hope atlus doesnt get debunked to a branch that only puts out persona games xD or even worse a ios/android branch

Yes! This is good news. I was worried MS or Ninty would go for them and while it’s a shame Sony didn’t grab the chance at least this means it should be multi plat titles and timed exclusives more often than full exclusives.

arn’t sega exclusively publishing on nintendo platforms now?

oh wait that is for sonic games only. (Lets hope they don’t extend it then)

      • Jonathan Harding-Rathbone

Yeah, but let’s face it, most sonic games now (aside from allstars racing) are party or minigame collections. We will have to wait and see of course but with the Wii U struggling so much I’d bet the Atlus games will probably now be mainly multi plat.

I don’t know–Sonic Generation was really good and an example of what Sonic CAN do that nobody else is attempting. Sad to see something similar will never come to the Vita.

          • Jonathan Harding-Rathbone

How do you know it will never come to Vita? Yes some multi plat sonic games have been good. But the majority have lost their way or maybe it’s just me. Sega develop some good titles I just miss the day they released classic after classic like first party studios often do. Look at Naughty Dog…even Nintendo’s first party studios still seemingly manage hit after hit regardless of platform.

Sonic is now a Nintendo exclusive. Deal got inked last year some time I think.

      • Kyle Wakeling

Sega Sammy is NOT Sega; it’s their parent company – and they’ve got a history of acquiring companies and then letting them run under their own merit. That means Sega probably won’t have its hand in this cookie jar. 😉

        • Lester Paredes

I sure hope that you are correct. I’d hate for any of Atlus’ games to get to join Valkyria Chronicles 3’d for other territories.

        • Jonathan Harding-Rathbone

          Thanks for clearing that up
          ..I didn’t know that. Lol
