When you think about Media Molecule’s papercraft platformer what is the first comes to mind? Obviously an elderly-man tap dancing! Sony have released a short video featuring just that to promote the release of Tearaway in on December 5th in Japan.

At first glance the short skit seems to be some sort of viral marketing that takes aim at the ridiculous, but upon further investigation it’s part of a much larger campaign for the title.

In video that runs more than ten minutes, the same elderly gentleman plays the role of a sort of story teller to a young girl; explaining the adventures of Atoi/Iota. The odd scene unfolds in a manner similar to something you would find in an children’s educational television program.

Japan is known for it’s “unique” brand of marketing, and this is about as “unique” as they come.

Tearaway is available now in Europe and North America, and will be released on December 5, 2013 in Japan.
