Namco Bandai has released the very first official screenshots of the upcoming Japanese anime adaptation Girls and Panzer: Master the Tank Road!.

The brand-new screenshots focus largely on a few of the game’s many tanks, including the  Panzer IV D-type, the StuG III F-type and the Type 89 I-Go. Additionally the new images do a good job of highlighting some of the anime cutscenes, which seem to be faithful to the source material.

Girls and Panzer: Master the Tank Road! has a Japanese release date of June 26, 2014, exclusively for PlayStation Vita.

No word yet on a Western release.

Looks kinda lonely. I’ve only seen a fraction of the series, but I do know it’s got something of a cult following in Japan. If it’s more of an action game, I’m definitely in. And if there’s little on the dialog, I’d even consider buying a Japanese copy (as I doubt it’ll be released in the West).

    Nice tanks!

Looks kind of cool. When is it set though? It doesn’t look very WW2-ish. Is Panzer a Japanese word for tanks as it made me think of a game where you are fighting Germans as Japanese girls!

Wikipedia’s entry on the Anime series:

The story takes place in a universe where historical WWII-era tanks are maintained for sports warfare competitions and large carrier ships known as Academy Ships support mobile sea communities
