A “reboot” of 1985’s innovative Saboteur was unveiled today by Steve Iles, CEO and Producer of Spirit Entertainment Group.
A reveal was teased by Iles throughout the day on twitter, but he finally lowered his guard at 6pm GMT and made the announcement. Moreover, it seems that he and Saboteur developer Clive Townsend were long-time friends and rebooting the franchise was a project of passion for the pair.
Although it is still in the early stages of planning and nothing is definite, the developer’s new take on the Zx Spectrum classic is planned release on PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PC and Mac, and it may even find itself at the center of a Kickstarter campaign.
Furthermore, the new rendition of Saboteur will be a completely new experience, which will be accompanied to market by an already completed port of the original title. There is some talk about incorporating a copy of the 1985 offering as a possible reward to backers, however Iles remains undecided.
Saboteur is s a game that puts you in the guise of a ninja who must infiltrate a facility unnoticed in order to ascertain a floppy disk. It pre-dates the original Metal Gear on the Nintendo Entertainment System, is often credited as being one of the pioneers of the modern Stealth genre of games.
We will have more on the reboot of Saboteur in the near future.
