After recently launching as part of the PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection on PlayStation 4, Don’t Starve breached well beyond the million-player threshold, prompting developer Klei Entertainment to further consider bringing the game to other platforms; including PlayStation Vita.
“We’re investigating a proper Vita version [of Don’t Starve] at the moment, but we’re not quite sure yet,” stated Klei’s Corey Rollins in an interview with Edge Magazine.
The massive increase of Don’t Starve’s user base is nothing short of incredible, but it may just be the the relationship the PlayStation Vita shares with the PlayStation 4 that decides the fate of a future port.
“Currently, a lot of people play Don’t Starve: Console Edition using the PS4′s remote play, and really enjoy it. So we’re looking into a proper Vita release.”
While Klei’s new-found intrigue as a result of Remote-play may be exciting, it isn’t an anomaly. In the time since the PlayStation 4’s launch Sony has seen a drastic increase of the public’s interest in the PlayStation Vita, with sales of the handheld receiving a 68% increase during the the PS4’s launch week.
It’s unknown as to whether Klei will pursue their interest at this time.
