A new Japanese commercial for the upcoming mash-up puzzle game Puyo Puyo Tetris has hit the web, and it’s as odd as you would expect.

The video features a woman and a man – each representing Puyo Puyo and Tetris respectively – dropping their respective puzzle pieces onto a field; all in front a backdrop so vibrant that it puts the 80’s to shame. Hey, at least we now know where the pieces come from, right?

Featuring platform-wide multiplayer, Puyo Puyo Tetris merges the gameplay of two of the most popular puzzle games gaming has to offer. Players will be able to explore a mixture of mechanics from both franchises in the game’s Swap Rule, which routinely switches between the two sets of gameplay to keep players on their toes.

Puyo Puyo Tetris is set to release on PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3, Wii U and 3DS on February 6, 2014 in Japan
