The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, an action-adventure rogue-like, from one of the creative minds (Edmund McMillen) of Super Meat Boy and developed by Nicalis is due to release on PlayStation Vita later this year.

The game, a remake of The Binding of Isaac – a popular flash game, will feature a new soundtrack and new power-ups. On a post on The Binding of Isaac website, we are introduced to one of these power-ups that will assist you as you explore these dungeons. This power-up is called Tiny Planet, which is an asteroid lodged in Isaac’s head that makes tears circle around Isaac himself. This was teased a while back in a design document recently revealed by McMillen;

Tiny Planet is a power-up that raises your attack range greatly, changing how your tears move and adding spectral effects so that your tears can move through objects. These tears are used as a method of attack to defeat the many enemies that you face throughout the game.

McMillen says that ‘items like tiny planet are important in isaac because they change how you play. the best items in games are those that force the player to play differently while still giving them a slight advantage if used correctly,‘ he continues, ‘with tiny planet your tears become a force field of chaos, and you now play the game completely different… and with different gameplay come some very different combos!

In the post on the game’s site, we are told that with a few tweaks, items that appear to be a hindrance can become extremely powerful and fun if used to their potential.

These items can be used together in combo’s, with one posted that shows a new item used to generate a horde of attack spiders;

This combo exploit and many others will be available in the finished game, although some maybe slightly tweaked, so that players can experiment and find 1000 different ways to break the game.

McMillen continues to tease that there are more sights to show us, with more item combos to be revealed between now and the release of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.

    Liking the new pixel graphics on this game, makes it look so much better than the old flash game appearance.

    Is there an approximate release date? Was waiting for this game from the moment i got Vita. Also, check out the Kickstarter’s Hero Trap game, with the same concept. Maybe post some news on this project too?
