Jenny Murphy has taken to the US PlayStation Blog to remind everyone that PlayStation Vita Pets is still coming out, and it now has a release date.

First announced back in August at Gamescom, this pet simulator from Spiral House will be rolling, jumping, and fetching its way onto the PS Vita on June 3rd. And while I’m sure the hard-core Vita fan will probably overlook this family friendly title, parents such as myself have been begging Sony for years to bring more kid-focused games to the Vita.

PlayStation Vita Pets may be heavily inspired by Nintendo’s successful Nintendogs franchise, but this game promises to be something more. Vita Pets is more than just a pet simulator, as you will accompany your dog into the outside world to go on adventures, solve puzzles, and discover treasure. The aim is to make it more of a game as well as a simulator in order to provide the player with an actual challenge. But fear not, you can also take your dog for walks, play fetch, and hose them down in a virtual bath.

Hopefully PlayStation Vita Pets¬†will help fill some of the holes that currently exist in the Vita’s game library. Aside from a handful of games, the Vita lacks the kind of games which appeal to a younger audience. If this one can gain some sort of traction, it may help to put more Vitas into the hands of kids. Only time will tell.

In the meantime, take a look at the game’s trailer and decide for yourself whether it’s up your alley.

This and Invisimals is a good start. However, I’m always wary of talking animals… lol

The graphics actually look nice and the prospect of a pet game that also contains actual gameplay might well make this worth a purchase.
