Due to launch on PlayStation Vita later this year, The Stranger of the Village of the Sword is a new first-person RPG from Demon Gaze developer Experience.

In a recent update, we were shown how an ‘Ambush’ feature allows for you to set traps in dungeons for loot. Certain spaces in the dungeon allow you to use morale points to set up an ambush. Ambushes can be stacked, but this will increase the morale point cost.

As soon as a monster enters the Ambush space, a treasure drop is guaranteed. These drops will indicate what loot you will receive, so it is worth checking out before entering battle to see if it will be something that you will want. The Ambush can be used up to five times, so you can select various items per Ambush. However if you keep waiting for the items that you want, you run the risk of being noticed by monsters which could lead to a surprise attack.

Taking out the enemy leader on time means that you will be able to acquire treasure content safely. These treasures may occasionally be set with traps that can inflict damage upon your entire party as well as other ill-effects, so you will need to be careful!

We also got a look at key areas of the base, where you will spend a lot of time when you’re not battling through dungeons. The corridor is where you will load your game and save your progress. It is also part of the guild’s doorway that leads to other facilities.

There is a residential area that allows you to recover your health and resurrect fallen comrades. You get a choice here of immediate treatment which comes at a cost, or a cheaper option of lengthy hospitalisation.

Next up is the commander’s room, in which you will be changing jobs, as well as registering and managing your friends.

Finally is the shop, where you can buy equipment and various other items whilst also giving you a place to store your gear.

Although the majority of the above screens are taken from the Xbox 360 version of the game, we expect the PlayStation Vita version to be almost identical when it is released. I’m usually very picky when it comes to JRPG’s so I gotta admit that this game looks interesting but not sure if its a buy yet. Anybody know how the Xbox 360 version performed?

Not just yet, the 360 version launches in June, with the Vita version set to follow later on this year.
