With three hours left, SMASHWORX was able to reach their funding goal on Kickstarter to bring The Hero Trap to the PS Vita.

This Gauntlet-inspired dungeon runner puts you in the role of a most unlikely hero in the quest for gold and treasure. Much like Trine, you’ll actually be controlling three characters at once, each a hero spirit that will possess your character, giving him new attacks and abilities. You can then swap between them at any time to use the best hero for each situation.

Truly, an unlikely hero

There are six heroes to begin with, though SMASHWORX has ambitions to add up to as many as 12. As of now, they consist of:

herotrap5 herotrap2 herotrap6 herotrap4 herotrap3 Herotrap7

Each of the 20+ levels are randomly generated with each one providing its own unique feel to the game. And while there is no official release date yet, the Kickstarter page does list the estimated delivery date as September of 2014. So look for it (hopefully) coming out this fall on PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, and of course, PS Vita.

The truly wonderful thing about The Hero Trap is that it finally does what many of us here at The Vita Lounge have been clambering for; a Kickstarter game where the Vita is one of the original platforms developed for and not just a stretch goal down the road.

You check out the trailer below.

To get a good history behind the creation of the game, I’d recommend watching this short video where the creators talk about their inspiration and what they hope to accomplish with it.

    Also native res pretty please.
Both would be great but i’ll take either.

Oh, nice. I have a problem with Kunoichi, though. Not that the character is not a girl, that’s not what a Kunoichi is… but rather a Kunoichi utilizes sex to get the job done… That ninja ain’t sexy enough.

Cool! Easy to see the Gauntlet influence. Looks like it will be alot of fun!
