Well Formed Pixels have announced today that they are bringing their iOS game, Gunship X, over to the PS Vita sometime later this year.

Drawing inspiration from Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Starship Troopers, Gunship X is a top-down shooter that puts you in control of the mighty weapons mounted to an AC-130 gunship. Your mission is to defend humanity against the hordes of alien invaders and provide enough cover fire to allow the humans to evacuate.

The game is designed around bite-sized moments of action and each level should last approximately five minutes or so. Players will be able to switch between various weapons in order to select the right tool for the job, and also to give certain weapons a cool down period.

Then as the game progresses and the pace quickens, developer Serban Porumbescu claims, “The intensity quickly ramps up from there as you see friendlies abducted and taken off the edge of the game board. Over time, you have to balance your focus between saving humans to maximize earnings, keeping the landing zone clear of hostiles, and dispatching the bomber aliens that can shoot you down.”

When the game arrives, expect to enjoy 30 levels spread across four different battle zones with two (possibly three) gunships to choose from. So far the AC-130 and AC-17 have been confirmed with a possible mystery 3rd ship in the works.

In the meantime, take a look at the launch trailer available now.

I’m interested! Hopefully it’s got controls without all been touchscreen!

I’ll wait till this is under £1. 30 5 minute levels sounds fine for a mobile throwaway piece of crap but can you realistically expect people to pay a premium price for what sounds like a shallow and short experience? The only ios games should be exceptional ones not this type. Hopefully they triple the amount of playtime if they are expecting to charge £8+ or I predict very poor reviews.

The explosions are really poor too, which is a major negative where they are the entire game. They have basically cloned a call of duty level to ios standard yet are inexplicably signed to vita. At least this isn’t an e3 reveal!
