This week’s issue of Famitsu shares new details on the latest title in the Phantasy Star series, Nova.

Developed by Tri-Ace – known for their work on Star Ocean, Phantasy Star Nova takes place in the world of Phantasy Star Online 2, and it will have its own original story with the main characters of Latina, Seil, Izuna, Fordia and Magnus.

According to Siliconera, the game is said to be closer to the first Phantasy Star Online with a focus on survival and features costume destruction. Character creation is said to use much more realistic textures and you will be able to change your characters design later in the game once you have met certain criteria.

The battle system is said to be completely different from that of Phantasy Star Online 2, so players that are new to the series can jump right in. Upon starting Phantasy Star Nova, players won’t have any facilities, but they’ll be unlocked over time, and the order of which ones get unlocked can be decided by the players. The game has confirmed Ad-Hoc multiplayer, but no news of any online play at this time. Expect more details on June 15th at the Phantasy Star festival.

Nova is set to release later this year in Japan; in the event of a Western release we will let you know. Although we are still waiting for Online 2 to make it here…

  • I have a feeling we’ll see this one before PSO2. They’ve been really good about porting their handheld titles.

You mean localizing their handheld titles, of which I’d say no they haven’t. 7th Dragon series and Shining series, as well as the previous Project Diva games say hello.I love SEGA but they’re reliability on the localization front is…bad.

      • I’m only referring to the Phantasy Star titles.

    The blur is offensing.

Sounds good and hopefully more likely to make it West.

On Sega I’m glad their Nintendo deal is coming to an end, I would love a new All Stars and a new Lost World or Generations game, with levels in the graphical style of the inspiration platform.
