Tecmo KOEI‘s Toukiden Extreme is set to release in Japan on 28th August. This week we learn more about some of the new game modes that we can expect once this monster hunting title launches.

In this week’s edition of Famitsu, we are introduced to these new modes that allow players to kill tough Oni for greater rewards.

In ‘Endless Subjugation Duty’ you will take on Oni after Oni until you decide to end the mode. The more Oni that you take on, the greater the chance that you will receive rare materials and Mitama as your reward.

Next up is ‘Urgent Duty’ – a mode can happen at any time and when it does, the Oni that you will face will be a mystery until the fight begins. The battle may be a tough one but again, the rewards will be worth your troubles!

Finally, Famitsu also brings news of a new Oni, named the Kazenui. This Oni is a mythical two-tailed cat-monster (or Nekomata) that is cunning, agile and brutal!

Are you looking forward to this re-imagining of Toukiden? The Vita Lounge will keep you posted on all the Toukiden Extreme news as it happens.

    Yup I’m looking forward to Kiwami. I just hope that besides all these modes, they don’t forget to add more variety in the Onis.

  • Slizarus

    So.. Kiwami is Extreme right?

    Those modes are great! Definitely looking forward to more variety, but I’m diggin’ what they’re putting in.

    Stop! Just stop reporting on this game! It weakens my resolve to not buy yet another upgraded monster murderer game! Please… for the sake of my wallet…

  • Eh… So if Kiwami is Extreme, then what’s Kyoku? Or is it the same? O.o

    • Kyle Wakeling

      極 = “Kyoku”
      極み = “Kiwami”

      They’re pretty close both in meaning and writing, with kyoku being sort of like “very” and kiwami more like “extremely”.

      It’s the same thing, pretty much.

      • Ah, thanks for the clarification! I’m so looking forward to this game! 🙂
