The Japanese version of Freedom Wars is set to get a huge update that includes cooperative play.

Famitsu did not release any date for this update, but it did announce that the long awaited update featuring online co-op is coming.

Here’s the details;

  • Internet co-op play – In addition to the currently available ad-hoc multiplayer, wi-fi mode has been added. Wi-fi mode includes support for both text and voice chat.
  • Multiplayer invasion missions added – Face off against other Panopticons. If you win, you reduce the opposing Panopticon’s ranking/worth (GDPP).
  • Players no longer need to complete a mission in Story Mode once before being able to do it with a friend in co-op.
  • Personal leaderboards added in addition to existing ones in place for City-State War Node. Those with high ranks can earn special items.

Freedom Wars is currently available in Japan, with a Western release due sometime this year.

    I’m actually very surprised that this wasn’t in the game right out of the gate.

      Me too O_O

    • Yeah…pretty deceptive because that means we will most likely be waiting a few months before we can play online.

        How is it deceptive? They never said that online multiplayer would be available right out of the gate. It’s like GTA V. They worked on it until it was good and released it. I was just surprised it wasn’t available day one. Most games like this have multi-player from the start. Now, if you have to pay for it… then, there’s shenanigans.

        • It’s deceptive because one of the games most marketed feature is the online multiplayer.

            GTA V did the same thing. It’s not deceptive if they mention that ‘online services may not be available in all areas’. Even if it’s fine print. that’s the same thing Sony did with PSN. They’ve always said it’s Free* with an asterisk.
