Spanish indie developer Hydra Interactive recently revealed more information on their papery new adventure game: Upside-Down Dimensions.

You play as Ryuu and Keiko, who dwell in opposite dimensions and must simultaneously advance on their respective sides of the paper world to defeat the Dark Shogun. The gameplay features slash-’em-up combat, stealth, and puzzle platform elements.

Feel free to watch the gameplay trailer below, which came with the following comment from the developer:

“The game will be out on all PS formats especially the PS Vita. We have been working hard on a great trailer (below) that enlight players on what is the the game backstory and some of the main mechanics that will be made available while playing on the different platforms. We have also been playing around with the game on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.”

The two protagonists have some unique abilities, but both characters are able to summon origami creatures to aid them in their journeys. The samurai Ryuu however, has a sword and shuriken to create combat chains; Keiko has stealth and infiltration abilities, along with her trusty umbrella to get her out of sticky situations.

You can expect to see Upside-Down Dimensions release sometime in 2015.

  • Woah! We went from a handful of screenshots to a full-blown gameplay video. Glad to see an update on this!

So is this another Spanish exclusive just like Tadeo Jones?

Nice art direction. I’d sure like it if you could defend yourself as the female character. I mean, she’s already got a parasol, why not hide a blade in it.

    Fantastic. I can’t wait.

Looks beautiful! And such a cozy world. It looks so tactile!

Though they could work some more on the transitions when the world flips over. The panning when the camera zooms in looks a bit janky and disorientating.

With a while to go in development, hopefully they will.
