We finally get a date for the Western release of 5pb’s Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds.

Beat ’em up side-scroller Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds is set to launch July 29th in North America and July 30th in Europe, but it was no easy feat to get it there.

Battle Grounds is the first time 5pb has released a game worldwide for Vita and according to Producer Masaki Sakari it hasn’t been a very pleasant experience.

The separate branches of Sony Computer Entertainment have different certification standards and rules that they have set (or have been set for them) to which they must comply, making the process of getting a single game certified in multiple regions sometimes daunting. Sakari found this to be true for 5pb, as he says that SCE wasn’t very accommodating to their needs – especially SCE Europe.

Overall however, the producer said that this was a learning experience which he thinks will be useful in future endeavors. Hopefully this means some more games coming West from 5pb which conform to these “rules” from the get-go, but we’ll have to wait and see.

All I care is that 5pb finally got their feet wet by publishing overseas. Hopefully this will lead them releasing more games outside Japan, especially Visual Novels 😉
