In a dramatic U-turn, the European PlayStation Blog has today announced that Japan Studio‘s Freedom Wars will be receiving a full physical edition when it goes on sale in Europe later this year.

A few weeks back it was announced that the highly anticipated Freedom Wars would be getting a digital-only release in Europe.  Fred Dutton, who gave the news that the game would be digital-only, took to the PlayStation Blog earlier this afternoon to report that Sony have been listening to fans demands on forums and social media for a physical version.

This physical edition of Freedom Wars will release on PlayStation Vita at the same time as the digital version, so keep your eyes on The Vita Lounge for news on the release date (and for more news on Freedom Wars) as it breaks!

Well done, Sony, for listening to your fans.

I say that despite the fact that I’m quite happy with digital distribution.

Great now all we have to do is start a campaign to get them to DUB the game. Seriously their should be an unwritten rule that all first party titles should be properly dubbed. Congrats again to everyone planning to get a physical release.

    • Even a DLC dub would be something I’m interested in. Despite Japanese voiceovers being inherently sexy, English for a non-anime/manga based game is so much more immersive for me.

The thing is as glad as I am for English dubs I always advocate for French and Spanish Dubs too. The reason I do this is because their is an import community for these games and the more folks that are happy with their games the better 🙂

There will be a freedom wars 2 if this sells well. In order for this game which Sony is now backing pretty hard (hard for a vita game) to get English , french, Spanish dubs it needs to sell well. If it does this game won’t get it but you can be we’ll get all the dubs in the world and the sexiest special edition imaginable.

  • I’m happy for you guys that wanted a physical copy. 🙂

That’s great! I’m happy for my fellow Vita owners in Europe! Now, if only we can get the same for Ratchet and Clank in NA, which has mysteriously vanished from this weeks store update and the Playstation Blog’s update…

Well done Sony, the realisation dawns that people won’t pick up a Vita from store shelves unless they see excellent games sat next to it.

Sony seem to have a complete disconnect between their marketing and reality for Vita – everyone should experience this fantastic handheld, not just we hardcore few that will dig to find the gems.

Kudos for both listening and acting though, I hope the sales back up the decision so it happens more often 🙂
