The latest PlayStation Vita firmware is now up on Sony’s servers.

PlayStation Vita System Software v3.18 now awaits you, though the change log might be a bit of a let down (unless you’re aware of their numbering scheme).

Take a look;

  • System software stability during use of some features has been improved.

Disappointing right? Well, being an update that changes the second number after the decimal (the previous release was v3.15), it’s obvious to those in the know (which now includes you ;)) that not only is the addition a bug-fixing/stability addition (in this case closing an exploit), but it includes no major feature updates.

That said, you’ll still need it for any major network services (including remote play), so the best time to update is ASAP!

  • CMack .

Forgot where I read this, but, I believe this update also fixes an exploit that allowed people to run homebrews through the psp emulator. Not sure as I never actually did this, I hope someone who unknowingly updated can chime in.

Ugh. ‘Stability’ updates. Aka: We’re not letting you use the product the way you, the owner of said product, wish to use it. Because piracy.

Look, Sony, I don’t like piracy either, but if you just gave people the option to do what they wanted, I don’t think you’d have as much trouble.

I mean, I saw Gran Turismo PSP on the Vita’s store front the other day. I was happy. Tried to download it, but reached a screen that said that was impossible. I talked with Sony customer service the next day, they said the same thing. So, why is it on the store!?! Ugh.

Metal gear portable ops works on vita without hacking. I have it on mine.

      • Lester Paredes

The temptation to look for more information is real… Also, I’m jealous of you.

        • John Guymer

I bought it on psp originally. Then just went to my download list via my vita and it was avaliable to download. For some reason siphon filter doesnt work

          • Lester Paredes

I keep checking. And It never shows up. it makes me sad.

          • John Guymer

Weird. Just checked and it is in the store. I’m in the uk

          • Lester Paredes

Oh, well that explains it. It’s not available so easily in the US. Or at all. Unless you have a PSP, and want to deal with the horribly convoluted control scheme to try and control camera and stealthy assassin simultaneously.

    • Kyle Wakeling

It’s now downloadable onto the Vita, along with Jean d’Darc. (At the point you mention, it was made downloadable through the PS3).

      • Lester Paredes

Yes, I know it’s available through the workaround. The problem is that it’s listed in the Vita’s storefront. So you see it, decide to buy it, and then when attempting to download it, you are greeted with: You cannot download this with a PS Vita System error. That doesn’t happen with Jean d’Arc, thankfully. I’m playing that one right now. My point is: If it’s in the store accessible by the device, then you should be able to get it. If not, stop it from showing up on the device.
