Ska Studios has announced that their new game Salt and Sanctuary will be coming to the PS Vita and PS4 next year. The two person indie studio out of Seattle is making their PlayStation debut with this 2D “stylistic, brutal action RPG platformer.”

In Salt and Sanctuary, you play as a shipwrecked sailor on a bizarre and twisted island. This place sit isolated against a never ending war raging on in the rest of the world. Here peace can exist in buildings known as Sanctuaries where other travelers congregate to take shelter against the violence.

Not many details have been released concerning the game’s story, but they are putting a heavy emphasis on the side scrolling combat and RPG elements. There will be plenty of weapons available, from swords and shields to crossbows and magical staffs. Players will have to balance their weapon load outs since everything will have an effect on character movement and agility.

Ska Studios has definitely drawn a lot of inspiration from Castlevania for this dark and brutal platformer, and they also claim the Souls games heavily influenced the game’s design.

Salt and Sanctuary will be coming exclusively to the PS Vita and PS4 sometime next year.

Looks great, definitely influenced by the Souls games. Which is great, bring on the Souls-likes.

If Castlevania ever made its way on the Vita, I’m sure it would look like those screenshots.

Another day, another must have game. Love the dark themes and seems to be a title with a lot of depth when it comes to gameplay.
