If you love your Vita as much as we do, there is a good chance that you have come across Gucamelee, the metroidvania platformer which impressed nearly everyone that played it.
Since work finished on that title, Drinkbox Studios have been working hard on Severed, and following the PlayStation Experience show they showed off a trailer for their newest title.
In Severed you play as a one-armed heroine who yields a living sword. By using touch based mechanics you can execute both defensive and offensive moves to defeat a whole host of different enemies.
By defeating bosses you can fashion Totems, which are armour pieces which have differing abilities, One such ability is called Sunder, which is used in battle to destroy defences or in exploration to get passed barriers. The order in which you encounter and defeat bosses also affects the order in which you obtain these abilities, which affects how the game plays out.
As you can probably guess from the title of the game, one of the key mechanics of the game is Severing, the ability to force enemies into a vulnerable state that allows you to cut off one or more of their body parts. There is only a limited amount of time in which to choose and accurately cut these parts off and as mentioned, acquired enemy pieces are used to upgrade equipment and abilities.
Drinkbox Studios say that the world is a “fully stylized twisted reality”, where you are encouraged to explore the world and this will have its own challenges, some that are hazardous and some that require thought.
Slated for a spring release, we will bring you more news on Severed as we have it.
