If you tried to connect to PSN over Christmas you’ll probably have noticed some serious issues, which were apparently caused by a notorious online group spreading their own message of festive cheer. Speaking on the PlayStation Blog, Sony Entertainment Network Vice President Eric Lempel acknowledged the inconvenience caused to gamers and as a result everyone who had an active PlayStation Plus subscription or trial on Christmas day will have had an extra five days added to their subscription.

In addition to this, he pledged that for a limited time everyone with a PSN account will receive a 10% discount code later this month towards anything on the store. How and when this will happen is not currently known.

Despite the issues, I was able to register my PlayStation TV and sign in, as well as play a few games offline but couldn’t play or message others.

Were you affected over Christmas? What do you make of the offer?

I honestly expected nothing. Happy to get something out of it. I’ll be using that 10 percent off on this month’s Atelier and Grim Fandango releases. Whee! Just be sure to do it on their website, that way you can apply the discount to your total, instead of just one game. I don’t know if you can do that on ps3… I avoid that store like the plague since it crashes on me so frequently. Usually as I’m about to finalize my purchase.

“Despite the issues, I was able to register my PlayStation TV and sign in, as well as play a few games offline but couldn’t play or message others”……Lucky you, I wasnt able sign in my brand new Playstation TV that my brother bought for me as a gift 🙁

  • I wasn’t too put out (was playing single player Vita games), but it’s nice to have them make up for the network’s issues (whether their fault or not) with something cool. 🙂
