Kickstarter is quickly becoming the place where many new Vita games first get their start. Now the developers at Dead Mage are trying to get their new game, Children of Morta, brought to life, and the PS Vita has made it on the list as a stretch goal.

Children of Morta is a rogue-like hack and slash game starring the Bergson family who are the generational guardians of Mount Morta. They bring peace and stability to the lands around the mountain until one day the corruption arrives. Now the family must defeat this new evil to bring peace back to the land.

The game will feature procedurally generated levels to make each adventure new and fresh. The pixel art style is a unique blend of old and new that is very reminiscent of the look of classic computer adventure games. There will also be a fair bit of resource collecting and crafting.

Players will be able to play as either Mark Bergson (the father) or any of his four children. Mom will be staying at home since baby number five is on the way. Each member of the family will have their own unique fighting ability and system of attack. You can also count on other family members, such as Uncle Ben and Joey, who are master craftsmen and will create new items for the team to use.

Dead Mage will need to raise at least $90,000 if they’re going to bring the game to the Vita. As of the time of this writing, they are at $43,000 with 24 days to go.

And it looks like the project already has a few high profile backers including Sony’s very own Shuhei Yoshida.

Isn’t it technically a conflict of interest for Shuhei Yoshida to back this project?……Oh who cares he probably only threw a buck anyway, and at least it’s coming to the Vita.

It’s such a shame everything is procedurally generated these days rather than levels designed to be interesting and packed with content. However I still like the look of the game and hope it comes to Vita,

People, do you think this could get to the vita’s goal?
