A new report in Famitsu indicates that sales of Minecraft for the PS Vita have been quite good recently as total sales for the handheld version now top 200,000 as of January 26. This is up from 100,000 units sold as of December 17.

Total sales of Minecraft on all PlayStation platforms in Japan has been 500,000 across the PS Vita, PS3, and PS4. Since the PS Vita version was released three months after the PS3 edition, it’s surprising that the Vita has been able to capture such a large share of the market.

Or perhaps it’s not that surprising when you look at data gathered from a recent survey that indicates among school children in Japan the Vita is the second most popular way for kids to play Minecraft. These numbers are certain to increase with the retail release coming soon.

And yet, that won’t bother Microsoft, let alone stop them from releasing exclusive vests, in-game items and/or featured DLC only for their consoles.
I never thought one day I’d be wishing Microsoft to support the Vita better…

Funny how things work out sometimes huh? Unfortunate but true.

  • Microsoft finally have a top selling game in Japan, kinda funny when you think about it.

BEWARE Japan! When it comes to MInecraft, “retail release” are Sony’s code words for download voucher in a box. I found that out the hard way here in the states.

Isn’t this suppose to be the first time Minecraft is released across Japan?

While I’m personally not interested in Minecraft in the slightest, I’m generally happy for any game that increases Vita-sales. I have a beefy desktop PC, a PS3 and an Xbone but no machine gives me more hours of gameplay than my Vita.

…And Vita tops the Media Create Sales Chart/Tracker ( Feb 16 to Feb 22 )….
