The free-to-play social strategy game to cease existence this Summer.

In what has been seen as a shock announcement, Sony have revealed that from June 30th, players will no longer be able to access the game, and all unused orbs will expire. Destiny of Spirits was released March 2014, and with the recent announcement that the game had racked up over 1 million downloads worldwide it seemed that the game had been a success story. But with the recent closure of PlayStation Mobile, support pulled from the Youtube, Maps and Near apps on PS Vita, it seems that nothing is safe.

Destiny of Spirits included RPG elements, and frequently featured cameos from characters of other PlayStation properties, such as Kat from Gravity Rush and characters from the Killzone series. It was developed by SCE Japan Studios and Q Entertainment exclusively for PS Vita.

As a sign of appreciation for fans of the game, there will be a fan appreciation campaign released with the final update (1.12) which will include past raid bosses.

Played and enjoyed it. Dissapointing news indeed.

It’s stuff like this that I refuse to play free to play games or take them seriously.

  • Mauricio Quintero

This is so sad, love this gem of a game.

  • Lester Paredes

It’s the sad, eventual fate if all of these free to play online games. Sorry to all those who enjoyed it.

  • Karl Smith

This is the problem. Sony is neglecting their handheld badly and wants it to die.

You know, I don’t want to admit it but with them ceasing support for everything like this. I think they are very subtly killing off the Vita instead of just announcing it and losing all sales from that point on. Well when that happens I’ll just finish buying the physical releases of the games I want for the vita and then switch to nintendo and Xbox. Plus I now have a game to delete on my memory card for room now.

Sad to hear. Although I never played the game, It seemed that it was a pretty popular game. Odd Sony would cease to support a game that has so many followers.

  • And again, why all this drama? It’s a free game – obviously tons of people will download it, but nobody said it was a success. F2P game’s success is measured in micro-transactions, not the number of times it was downloaded. People didn’t buy enough orbs to justify maintaining the staff and servers. That’s all there is to it.

As for YouTube app and Maps, blame Google, not Sony. PSM is a different story – it was a failure from the get go and it has nothing to do with “killing Vita”. Stop with this nonsense drama and get your facts straight.
