Hitting off with the release of MLB 15 The Show in Europe, April brings with it some awesome games for our favourite handheld. With titles such as Broken Age, Shovel Knight and Titan Souls gracing the platform, this will be a month that will keep us very busy!

Now we all know that some games can appear out of the blue and release on our favourite handheld with only a few days notice, but here are the key titles that we can expect this month;

MLB 15: The Show

Release Date – April 1st EU

mlb15

The next iteration in the fantastic MLB: The Show series releases for the PlayStation Vita at the end of this month. Bringing with it a slough of game improvements, MLB 15 is set to offer enhanced visuals, new gameplay features, and an improved online experience. They’ve also noted that this iteration offers a renewed focus on player emotion and personality, and to aid in that; for the first time ever the game will feature licensed equipment from the most recognizable brands in baseball!

Run Sackboy! Run!

Release Date – April 1st EU

RunSackboyRun_featured_image_vf1

Run SackBoy! Run!, which is also available on iOS and Android devices, will see Sackboy jump and run through three popular LittleBigPlanet worlds. You will use simple touch controls to collect bubbles which can then be used to purchase new costumes and items. And this time, those costumes will also feature built-in scoring multipliers to boost your score on the leaderboards. You’ll also be able to take advantage of different power-ups such as the Jet Pack, Magnet, Shield, and Glider when it launches for free this month!

MonsterBag

Release Date – April 7th NA / April 8th EU

Monsterbagfeat

One of April’s PlayStation Plus titles, MonsterBag is all about a blue monster called V and his journey to get back to his friend, a charming little girl called Nia. V will have to travel through places full of people and, as he is a monster, he will need to sneak past the people that inhabit these areas – humans don’t react well when they see a monster approaching them! The key to success in this game is to be aware of where the humans are looking and what their behaviours are. V will also have some telekinetic skills that are bound to come in use as you look to reunite with Nia.

Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones

Release Date – April 7th NA / April 8th EU

stealthinc2

Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones combines the puzzle platforming with a healthy dose of stealth, hacking robots and getting blown into tiny pieces by lasers. The sequel is a full reimagining of the original, featuring a fully explorable, Metroidvania style overworld, brand new gadgets, a powerful level editor with full level sharing and a variety of excellent customisable hats. Originally a Wii U exclusive, the game will be priced at £12.99 / $14.99 / €14.99 and will feature Cross-Buy with the PlayStation 3 and 4 versions!

Titan Souls

Release Date – April 14th NA / April 15th EU

titansouls

Titan Souls is built on “adrenaline-fueled, tense and punishing boss battles”, and offers no health bars – opting for a man with the golden gun type scenario where one hit on you equals death. This system extends to your enemy titans as well, though with a small caveat – you can one-hit kill a titan, but only if you hit their weak spot.

A punishing game that involves trial and error crossed with skill and cunning, Titan Souls offers no tutorials, hints, prompts or upgrades – it’s pure you versus your enemy, coupled with the danger of you only having a single arrow to kill them with.

The question you have to ask yourself is; do you have what it takes to take on a titan and walk away victorious?

Color Guardians

Release Date – April 21st NA / April 22nd EU

colorguardians

In Color Guardians, you play as the three Guardians, Rod, Lia, and Grock, as they race through their worlds to restore the stolen colour. It might look at first like a regular side-scrolling action game, but there’s a couple of twists to the gameplay: not only do you have to dodge and jump incoming hazards, but you have to switch between three lanes while doing so, hopping in and out of the background and foreground. If that wasn’t challenging enough, you also have to switch your own colour on the fly to match yourself with pick-ups and objects in the world. People who tried it at PlayStation Experience described it as being an “Ikaruga-style” game, which is a pretty fair (and flattering) comparison.

Shovel Knight

Release Date – April 21st NA / April 22nd EU

shovelknight

Shovel Knight is a sweeping classic action adventure game with awesome gameplay, memorable characters, and an 8-bit retro aesthetic. It’s a hot mashup of new and old that may remind you of Mega Man, Castlevania, or Dark Souls! You play as the eponymous Shovel Knight, a small knight with a huge quest. Shovel Knight has two goals: to defeat the evil Enchantress and save his lost beloved. He wields a Shovel Blade: a multipurpose weapon whose techniques have now been lost to the ages. Always honest and helpful, Shovel Knight is a shining example of the code of Shovelry: Slash Mercilessly and Dig Tirelessly!

But, between Shovel Knight and his beloved stands a cadre of villainous knights. These terrible foes, known as The Order of No Quarter, have been dispatched to prevent Shovel Knight from reaching the Enchantress, and will pursue their mission at any cost.

The game will feature cross-save between all three platforms, and also announced was Kratos from the God of War series making it into the game as some form of boss character.

Broken Age

Release Date – April 28th NA / April 29th EU

brokenage

Broken Age tells the story of Shay and Vella, two strangers in very different world who live very similar lives. Vella is a girl who has been honored with the duty of being sacrificed for the safety of her village, only for her to decide that she doesn’t find it an honor. Shay on the other hand is trapped  on a space station where his every need is catered to by an ever attentive computer AI. Both are unhappy with their station in life and seek to break out into something better.

The game was pitched to the public as a return to the classic point-and-click adventure games that so many of us loved in the hey-day of LucasArts and Sierra. Its reception by the public was so overwhelming that the scope of the game grew and grew until it got too big causing the developers realized they went to far. This is what led to the game being divided in half, with the Act 1 being released on PC in January of last year. Now the complete game will be coming to PS Vita this April.

Project Root

Release Date – April 28th NA / April 29th EU

projectroot

In shoot ’em up Project Root you play as pilot Lance Rockport, who along with rebel group Arcturus, must stop world-leading energy corporation Prometheus who have been ruthlessly expanding their influence around the world. You’ll pilot your advanced fighter through intense battles against enemy aircraft and tanks, dodging missiles and destroying every enemy in sight.

The ability to free-roam around the map adds an unique spin on the genre, and although it gives you a much wider universe to explore, you will be looking over your shoulder constantly as attacks come from any and every angle. Of course along the way you will be aided by power-ups and the ability to upgrade your ships defences and weapons.

Featuring Cross-Buy with the PlayStation 4 version, Project Root will be pretty unique in the genre due to the fact that it will feature some free-roaming elements!

So there we have the key titles that are set to release for the PlayStation Vita this April!

    • Charlie Large

The PS4 version of Bastion is due to release next week, but they have said that the Vita version will be coming a little later – with no release date mentioned as of yet. Too be fair though, I reckon Titan Souls, Shovel Knight and Broken Age will keep me busy this month, so I’m kinda glad Bastion isn’t here just yet!
