Let the speculation begin.  On April 1, 2015 Sony filed for a trademark on a potential new model of the PlayStation Vita. There’s very little information to go on, and only vague design sketch to go off, but there are some differences between this design and the Vita 2000. The question that has arisen is whether this is the first look at the Vita 3000 or just an old trademark coming to light?

The Vita in the sketch almost seems to be a combination of the original Vita and the updated Vita slim. It appears as though the SIM card slot of the original 3G version has reappeared along the left-hand side. The charging port on the bottom is also clearly not the micro-usb port on the current Vita and resembles the proprietary charging port.

The rear touchpad also appears to be much larger without finger grips that became a lot more dominant in the 2000 model.

Hopefully we won’t have to wait long to find out more details behind the trademark, but in the meantime the speculation machine is going to go into overdrive and dissect every minute little difference in this sketch.

What do you think this is?

Brad is a video game enthusiast and family man. He's been gaming since the days of the Intellivision, and while that indicates he's been doing this for quite some time, he doesn't intend to quit anytime soon. Currently he's trying desperately to convince his daughter that there are more games than just Minecraft (unsuccessfully so far).

Probably an old thing. At least, I hope so. Those enlarged finger grips are a godsend.

How long do these things usually take to come to fruition? Does anyone think that we could see something at E3?

    • Phelan

      It already came to fuition.

The trademark is about button placement, not about new console.

  • Phelan

Guys… the trademark is about button placement and only about button placement.

    The description says it all
    “携帯用液晶画面ゲーム機用のコントローラー ”

    コントローラー means controller

The same day they filled this:

So no, Vita 3k is not in production.

EDIT: please notice how buttons are marked…
