Tommy Refenes, co-founder of Team Meat alongside Edmund McMillen, took to the PlayStation Blog today to bring us all the news that we have all (well, some of us 😉 ) been waiting for – Super Meat Boy is coming to the PlayStation Vita!
Tommy and Edmund spent 18 months creating the platformer – with their trials and tribulations well documented in Indie Game: The Movie.
Team Meat have said that when Super Meat Boy was first launched they weren’t allowed to bring it to the PS3 ‘for very complicated reasons‘ (rumoured to be an exclusivity deal with Microsoft). However, after years of patiently waiting, we can now look forward to experiencing the challenging platformer on both the PlayStation Vita and the PlayStation 4.
In his PlayStation Blog post, Tommy says that ‘we actually never ever EVER thought this day would come and it makes us both so happy that it’s finally here! We know this has been a long time coming but better late than never. Expect to be playing Super Meat Boy on your PS4 and PS Vita later this year.’
An announcement trailer for the title gives us a release window of this coming fall, so it won’t be too long before we can punish ourselves over and over again with the twitch-platforming required to master this game!
If the news of this title coming to PlayStation platforms was not exciting enough, Team Meat has also revealed that the game will be free on PlayStation Plus as soon as it launches as a way of saying ‘thank you for waiting patiently” to all those PlayStation fans that reached out to us over the years only to get back a “we can’t do it, sorry” response.’
Are you excited to see Super Meat Boy finally make an appearance on the PlayStation Vita? I know I certainly am! Let us know your views in the comments below, and check out the announcement trailer while you’re at it!
