We’ve been following the development of Volume for a while and it has featured prominently in our “Hot Games” list, and today we learned that the PlayStation versions of Mike Bithell’s newest title is being managed by UK Studio Just Add Water.

Best known for their work on the OddWorld Inhabitants titles New ‘N’ Tasty, Stranger’s Wrath HD and Munch’s Oddysee HD as well as Gravity Crash Ultra, the studio announced the news on their website.

The press release explains that due to working with SCEE, Oddworld Inhabitants and BOSSA with nine PlayStation titles in six years demonstrated their suitability to work on Volume, especially since the built in level creator is something the studio had experienced themselves with Gravity Crash.

Stewart Gilray, JAW Ltd’s CEO said of the news:
“It’s an exciting time for us at JAW at the moment, as well as working on our own unannounced titles we get to work with incredibly talented people and teams, in this case Mike Bithell.” CEO Stewart Gilray says. “We’ve known Mike since 2010 when Mike was about to start out as a fledgling indie developer.” “We’re incredibly proud and happy to be working with Mike on VOLUME and hope it’s as much as a success as Thomas Was Alone.”

Volume is set to launch on August 18th on Vita and PS4 and will be published by Bithell Games, and we can’t wait. What do you make of the news?

I just wish I could play new and tasty on vita without resorting to remote play.

It is kinda worrisome that they’ve been having such a hard time porting the game to the Vita, but at least it’s still being worked on. Many a studio would have given up the ghost by now so there’s still hope.

As for Volume, rarely I can say I’m as excited to experience a game’s story as much as the gameplay. Really looking forward to it! Knowing Mr. Bithell’s work, it’s most likely genius!

You know, you’re right. They are still working on it, so there’s still hope for it’s release in the future. After all, Stranger’s Wrath and Munch’s Oddysee both took a long time to come out, and they’re quality ports. I can only assume that the same care is being taken with New and Tasty and Volume.

After playing (and LOVING Gravity Crash Ultra) I have nothing but wonderful things to say about JAW. Their OddWorld ports were fantastic and I’m sure they’ll do great on this one as well.
