You may have already found this out through the July PS Plus announcement, but if you haven’t we can reveal that Geometry Wars 3 finally launches on the Vita next week!

The title was announced back in December at the PlayStation Experience Event and Developer Lucid Games spoke this week about the Vita version of the title on the NA PlayStation Blog and described some of the challenges that they have faced.

It is clear from the post that they were passionate about having as close to the console as was possible, with all of the gameplay mechanics present across over 100 levels.

Despite the limitations faced, it was important to hit 60 frames per second to the team at Lucid and having that framerate balanced without compromising the game play was crucial and the team have managed to achieve this, no doubt helped by the Vita not being 1080p – which freed up the power needed. Some slight changes have happened but the team feel that through some clever trickery you will not be able to tell the difference.

Geometry Wars

The game itself features both the single and multiple components, with the 8 player online multiplayer present and correct here, and even has some local multiplayer – achieved by using the same Vita – with one player using the D-Pad to move and the analogue stick for shooting whilst the other player uses the other stick to move and the face buttons to shoot. Lucid have said it may seem strange at first but is easy to pick up.

    Man, I wasn’t expecting this to release so relatively soon after being announced. Seems that most indies don’t show up for a year or two after the initial announcement. Happy I’ll have another twin stick to occupy my time with!
