It comes with great sadness that one of our greatest minds and talents in the industry, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, has passed away at the young age of 55.

Even though we are a Playstation Vita oriented site, we feel that it’s only right that we pay our respects to Mr. Iwata and the impact that he had on the video game industry as we know it.

In a statement made by Nintendo of Japan, it reads:

“Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth.”

Mr. Iwata was responsible for classics such as Balloon Fight and Earthbound. He also oversaw Nintendo during their most profitable time with the Nintendo DS and Wii as well as a producer for countless other Nintendo classic games.

The Vita Lounge offers our deepest condolences to Mr. Iwata’s friends and family. May he rest in peace.

Let us retweet all the possitive messages about the life he lived, and downvote all the videos trying to take advantage of this tragedy to criticize his shortcomings; for now is a time to grieve and remember.

    May Iwata-san rest in Peace.

It’s so heart warming to see that a Vita-centric site gives a space to a competitor-related headline.
That’s why I like it here.
Whether you are a Sony-only gamer or a multi-platform owner( I belong to this group ) a loss of a life is always sad, period. For not only Satoru Iwata is a loss to Nintendo but also that of Gaming Industry as a whole.

    Thank you Vita Lounge.
