New details and media regarding Ikenie to Yuki no Setsuna were presented by Square Enix today at the Tokyo Game Show (via livestream).
A 90’s-esque RPG with a modern twist, Ikenie to Yuki no Setsuna is set on an island where a ritual sacrifice is offered every decade to keep monsters at bay. One day however, the monsters begin attacking long before the next ritual sacrifice is planned and the ceremony is moved up in response.
The sacrifice candidate is Setsuna, an eighteen year old girl with strong magical abilities – while you play as her bodyguard. Your job in the game is to keep Setsuna alive until you reach the location where she must be sacrificed, which promises to be no easy task.
Featuring a world map that connects towns and dungeons (but won’t feature battle), places such as towns can be mined for information by talking to villagers – and if you look really hard you might even find treasure! In town there are also shops, and in shops you can buy items such as potions and ether; or if you need to run from battle there’s always the “Mistone” item.
Speaking of battles, they only occur in dungeons and begin when you contact an enemy. Battles take place on the area map and as such there’s a seamless transition between exploration and battle.
The battle system itself is the command-based Active Time Battle (ATB) system, where actions available include Attack, Magic and Item. At the bottom of each screen are the characters and their MP/HP reserves, as well as their ATB gauge underneath.
