New details and screenshots have been released by Square Enix for their upcoming game Dragon Quest Builders.

Using materials you gather on your adventure you will be able to create various items by using recipes. Some recipes, which you’ll learn by completing quests for monsters, enable you to create equipment for your character, including weapons, armor and shields. You can equip up to five different things at once, and they’ll be reflected visually on your character.

You can use your equipment to break down the terrain but you need to make sure that you use the right equipment for the job. So the “Big Hammer” is best for breaking down stone, while the “Stone Axe” is best for breaking down trees.

As revealed in last week’s update by Colinjbyrne the first Boss in the game will be against a Golum in the land of Merkid. He’ll throw large rocks and slam his fists down which will endanger the town. You can set traps for the Golem and at times he’ll fall to the floor which provides you with the perfect opportunity to strike.

As more details are released it’s becoming clear that Dragon Quest Builders is definately not just a Minecraft clone. Dragon Quest Builders is set to release on PS Vita, PS3 and PS4 on January 28th 2016 in Japan.

No offense to the Minecraft lovers out there, but this seems to outshine it in almost every area. This game appeals to my gaming needs in a far greater and better way than the game it takes it’s inspiration from. Looking forward to it!
