Happy New Year to you all, 2016 is finally here and with it comes a plethora of new games that are bound for your favourite handheld!

There are some big titles coming this month, with LEGO Marvel’s Avengers, Civilization Revolution 2 Plus and the long awaited (and delayed) Volume all releasing this month!

Now we all know that some games can appear out of the blue and release on our favourite handheld with only a few days notice, but here are the key titles that we can expect this month;

Release Date – January 5th NA / January 6th EU

Better late then never, Volume is a classic reimagining of the legendary Robin Hood fable and a stealth game at heart, packed with a cracking narrative and some inventive gameplay. The game requires you to out think and out wit the AI and is all about not getting caught. There’s no tackling the guards or going out fighting, you are really going to have to use your brain. Mike Bithell is at the helm, and after the huge success that was Thomas Was Alone we are hoping that Mike can continue with this awesome looking game that draws inspiration from Hideo Kojima’s classic Metal Gear Solid.

Atelier Escha & Logy Plus: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky

Release Date – January 20th (NA & EU)

Atelier Escha & Logy Plus: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky is set four years after the beginning of Atelier Ayesha. It takes place in a far away land, West of the Twilight Land, where two new alchemists (the named protagonists) are new members of the local administration’s R&D division.

While learning the ropes of alchemy, protagonists Escha and Logy gather companions and attempt to unlock the secrets of a nearby floating ruin – all the while, using their blossoming skills to help citizens that are still recovering from a catastrophic event known as “the Dusk.”

Civilization Revolution 2 Plus

Release Date – January 26th NA / January 29th EU

Civilization Revolution 2 Plus has been designed specifically for the PS Vita. Fans of the original game, released on iOS and Android last year, will be instantly familiar with the set up.

The game allows you to build up a civilisation from scratch, from the dawn of time to the space age. You’ll attempt to out do some of the greatest leaders from world history as you decide whether to be a feared warlord or a skilled diplomat with your competitors.

Included in this updated version will be key figures from Japanese history. The additional Japanese leaders will include Oda Nobunaga, Heihachiro Togo, and Himiko. Nobunaga will give players a bonus during the medival era and with samurai. Togo provides bonuses in naval combat, and Himiko gives bonuses in diplomatic and government related matters.

LEGO Marvel’s Avengers

Release Date – January 26th NA / January 29th EU

LEGO Marvels Avengers

The successor to Lego Marvel Super Heroes is also set to feature an expanded cast with over 100 new superheroes and villains, with a new Avenger being thrown into the mix in the shape of Iron Stan – the Marvel magnate himself, Stan Lee.

Lego Marvel’s Avengers will feature the usual suspects (Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Vision and Quicksilver) but it will also add some other fan favourites such as Sam Wilson as Captain America, Wiccan from Young Avengers, Crossbones, America Chavez from A-Force and Detroit Steel. The game will also feature an open-world New York City for players to explore – a first for the Vita LEGO games!

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel

Release Date – January 29th EU

Taking place on the same continent as fan-favorite Trails in the Sky, Trails of Cold Steel is the first game in the series to tread Erebonian soil and explore the inner political conflicts of this oft-mentioned powerhouse in detail. With a standalone story that also delves into the expansive lore that has become synonymous with the series, players take on the role of military students at a time of great turmoil, enjoying school life and bonding with fellow students to earn new abilities in battle, then utilizing those abilities via speedy, tactical turn-based combat with the newly-developed “ARCUS” system. Best of all, this epic storyline can be unraveled either from home or on the go with Cross-Save functionality between the game’s PS Vita and PS3 editions.

Saturday Morning RPG

Release Date – January TBC NA/EU

Saturday Morning RPG is set in a world heavily inspired by 1980s Saturday morning cartoons. The game follows the story of Martin “Marty” Hall, an average high school student who has been gifted a powerful ability to channel magic through everyday objects. With his newfound powers Marty has inadvertently attracted the ire of the world’s most heinous villain – the evil Commander Hood. This leads Marty into a series of dangerous plans that he must unravel to save the world (several times!).

Saturday Morning RPG is a Japanese style RPG that allows players to build Marty’s power up throughout multiple stand alone episodes. Players can carry over stats, inventory, and even story decisions between these episodes (sometimes your actions in one episode will ripple into previous or future episodes!). Saturday Morning RPG is a truly unique and engrossing role-playing game experience that can not be missed!

So there we have the key titles that are set to release for the PlayStation Vita this January!

  • Danny Boy

Volume !! it Does Look Good To Me!!!! …….. But is It a physical Release !? I Have maxed out My 32 gig mem Stick on My Vita …. & as much as i wanna upgrade to 64 gig … $85 off eBay Still Seems Very over priced ….

    • Charlie Large

No physical version I’m afraid – you’re going to have to delete something off the 32GB if you want to play 🙁

  • Buckybuckster

A nice contrast to the sluggish end of ’15. Civ Rev, Volume, and Lego Avengers are my wants for this month. Axiom Verge if it manages to make it out in Jan.

  • leingod

Waiting for that CIV, hope it runs well. Also waiting for the next Atelier game, the one without time constraints. That’s the only thing I hate about that series.

  • AndreasStalin

I’m so glad they keep porting the Atelier series to the Vita, such a perfect fit. Also Trails of cold steel is a must buy for me, as much as i really like the series of legend of heros games. Volume was not on my radar but looks interesting too.
