Gems will give you extra powers and abilities.

Square Enix’s upcoming RPG is set to release in Japan on February 18th and ahead of the release we have been given details on Gems and how they will be of use in game.

These Gems will be used in addition to armour and weapons, which can be used be learn new command techniques or additional effects. To obtain Gems, you can exchange materials gathered from battle in the shop. Each Gem requires a unique amount of materials.

These Gems can then be attached and detached at anytime during battle. The more you level up, the more Gems you will be able to attach at one time.

So far we know of seven different types of Gems, with different effects, which are:

Firebit: The fire attribute attack power of the equipped character will increase.

Stonebit: Petrifies an enemy as they are about to attack.

Wall: This Gem will allow you to receive less damage from enemy attacks. By pressing the appropriate button at the perfect time, the effect is increased.

Provoke: As you’d expect, this provokes the enemy allowing you to take all their attacks.

Harvest: Allows you to recover HP when an enemy is slain.

Avenger: Reflects a small amount of received damage.

Caloric: Widens your attacks, including unleashing single attacks as multiple attacks.

As well as this Gem-centric news, we were also introduced to a new character known as the Scythe Man. He lacks emotion and looks rather similar to a reaper. Don’t appraoch him, as he will appear a various times in order to kill Setsuna.

For those unfamiliar with Ikenie To Yuki No Setsuna, the game is set on an island where a ritual sacrifice is offered once every ten years. But for some unknown reason monsters have begun to attack long before the next sacrifice is due. As the protagonist, you need to escort the next sacrifice, Setsuna.
