For those of you that have yet to buy Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition, it looks like your time (like the Duke’s bubblegum) is all out!

On December 31st the rights to the Duke Nukem series changed hands from 3D Realms to Gearbox Software, and this lead to all of the Duke Nukem digital games disappearing from any stores that they were being sold on.

Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition was the only survivor, but now it looks like its time is up as the game is now no longer for sale on the US PlayStation Store (it still shows but you cannot purchase it).

A statement from the game’s publisher, Devolver Digital, reads as follows;

Devolver Digital’s distribution agreement for Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition has ended and the game is no longer for sale. All current owners get to keep the game, but the title will no longer be available for purchase through the PlayStation Network, Steam, Humble Store and other authorized digital distributors and Steam key vendors.

Following the end of our distribution agreement of Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition, Gearbox Software will take over publishing rights of the title.”

At the time of writing it appears that the game is still available to buy on the European PlayStation Store, but no doubt that will soon be made unavailable also – so if you want to pick it up but haven’t yet then be sure to buy it as soon as possible!

If you already own the game, you will still be able to download the title from your download list on the Store so do not worry if it is not on your Vita.

  • so, no returning under the new publisher / right owner? :/

Gearbox could bring it back and I expect them to. After fighting 3D Realms for the rights, to end it in removing the available versions would be dumb, this is easy profits.

      • i tried to buy it on the EU store… no chance, there was an strange error message! well, then I hope it really get re-re-re-released again 🙂

  • Damn, glad I got this one. 🙂

Poor Kyle commenting on his own poorly executed article. 🙂

“All current owners get to keep the game”

It’s really sad that in today’s world this has to be spelled out for people. OH GOSH WE GET TO KEEP A GAME WE PAID FOR? OMGZ!!!

    It should be expected……..

Ugh, this sounds like something that’s unfortunately becoming all too common. Even though in this case it sounds like it will become available again, it still sucks to keep having to deal with this kind of stuff at all (which is why I’ll always take physical over digital whenever possible).

  • Lester Paredes

Ahh… the all digital future looks bright indeed. (Sarcasm)

  • Logan Graham

It’s good that I got it when I did.
