Falcom has released some new information about the battle system for upcoming action RPG, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana.

Weapons that your characters equip will have one of three different attack types: Slash, Strike, and Shoot. If an enemy is vulnerable to an attack type then certain weapons will cause more damage than others. These means that it’s worthwhile switching between characters while fighting in order to deal maximum damage to an enemy.

Adol’s sword will have the Slash attribute. Slash attacks work well against soft-bodied enemies that absorb impacts.

Sahad’s anchor weapon will have the Strike attribute. It deals large amounts of damage to enemies with hard shell-like armor by inflicting direct blows.

Laxia’s rapier will have the Shoot attribute – a long-reaching, long-distance type attack. Shoot is weaker than Slash or Strike but it is a much more agile weapon which works well against flying types.

Besides the increased damage, there is another reason to attack enemies with an attribute they have a weakness to. After receiving a certain amount of damage enemies will enter a ‘Break’ state. When in a Break state the enemy will be weak to all three attack attributes. As well as this they will sometimes drop rare items and flying monsters may no longer be able to fly.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana will release in Japan in summer 2016 for PlayStation Vita. Keep checking back to The Vita Lounge for all the latest updates.
