According to a page on the Japanese PlayStation website, the Skype application has hit end of life in the region.

As of today – March 22nd – the Skype application will no longer be available for download in the Japanese region, and as of June 22nd it’s hitting end of support – meaning whenever they change their API it’ll cease to function.

Skype on Vita has been an uphill battle at best, with the application receiving infrequent updates and support since it was launched. While it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the application get a similar fate in the West however, nothing to that effect has been announced.

End of download is today in Japan, and end of support hits June 22nd.

See ya later, Skype! 😛

Before I got my tablet, whose cover doubles as a stand, the Vita was my go to device for Skype. It has a great camera for it.
