Konami Japan recently uploaded the first promotional trailer for their upcoming PS Vita baseball title, Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2016.

The title, also set for release on PS3 and PS4, is the newest entry in the long-running chibi baseball series also known in the West as Power Pro. The series is known for it’s deep, but simple arcade baseball mechanics, and it’s minimalist character designs known as “Pawapurokun” to fans. This series has been almost completely exclusive to Japan with the exception of the American release of 2007’s MLB Power Pros, released by 2K Sports for the PS2 and Nintendo Wii consoles.

The trailer shows off the quirky art style, fast-paced gameplay, and details the deep customization involved in managing your team to victory and the coveted pennant.

Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2016 fires off a triple when it releases in Japan later this month on April 28, 2016 for PS Vita, PS4, and PS3. A free-to-play version of the game, titled Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball Success Special will launch simultaneously.

It looks fun. Sure wish it’d come west. It’s rare that a sports game interests me. I wonder how import friendly it is?

    • With the amount of stat-tracking and player names involved on the management side, I would say at least basic Japanese would be required to play it.
