Veteran Vita developers Drinkbox Studios have dropped the big one on us with their release date announcement for upcoming Vita exclusive Severed.
After a two year development cycle, Drinkbox Studios finally dishes the details on one of the hottest indie titles to grace the handheld this year. Severed is the team’s long anticipated follow-up to the 2013 indie smash Guacamelee, and marks the third time the developers have produced a game for the PlayStation Vita.
Check out the colorful new trailer for the lowdown!
Severed is a first-person dungeon crawler where you take the powers of your enemies by equipping pieces of their bodies you’ve cut from them using the touchscreen. It looks like it will add a tactile sense of combat not seen in other games of the genre.
Originally planned for release in 2015, the game has gained a series of additions that the developers explain led to it’s delay.
Severed was initially planned as a Spring 2015 release, but after showing an early demo of the game at PlayStation Experience in December 2014, we became inspired with a ton of new ideas and decided there was a lot more we wanted to add. It only took a whole extra year, but we’ve finally finished packing in as much as we could into Severed and we’re really happy with how it has turned out.
The release of Severed is right around the corner, but you can listen to the game’s soundtrack in it’s entirety at the game’s Bandcamp page.
Composed by the Juno-nominated band YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN and special guests Pantayo, the intense progressive rock music in Severed’s OST gives a good sense of the unique atmosphere you can expect to find in Sasha’s adventure.
Severed by Drinkbox Studios will release on April 26, 2016 in the West, exclusively for PlayStation Vita.
