Bandai Namco US took to Twitter recently to address a concern over censorship, and in the process revealed that God Eater: Resurrection would be censored in the West.

If you’re a fan of getting Japanese games as they were meant to be released, you’re in for some bad news – God Eater: Resurrection will have blood effects toned down in the Western release, and will do so to retain a lower than “Mature” rating.

Here’s the give and take between James (@voltronraider) and Bandai Namco US (@BandaiNamcoUS);

With blood being censored – but nothing else apparently getting the editing treatment – are you okay with their decision to appeal to a wider audience?

Looking to Twitter it seems there are mixed opinions, with some users wondering whether the reduction of blood will have an effect on the title’s tone. Personally I share this worry, though we definitely need to see a comparison to know for sure.

God Eater: Resurrection releases July 28th in North America and August 30th in Europe.

Being digital and dubbed was already a big no for me but this is just ‘the las straw’.
Thank you Bamco for saving me some money.

Now it’s time to pray to the awesome Asian R3 god to shine his grace upon us like many times before.

Ummm… why? We have tons of blood and gore already in games in the West. I find that to be dumb, but what else is new? I find a lot of things dumb.

    • Buckybuckster

That’s the goofy thing about this. Even if we were getting the normal level of blood version, I know we could site a metric ton of other titles that are even bloodier. Even from the earlier generations of gaming. Baffling!!

Germany has somewhat stricter ratings on showing violence and blood in games and this is most likely simply Bandai not wishing to make separate versions and wanting to secure a Teen rating across the board. Bandai obviously is taking a very risk adverse approach with God Eater, not expecting to sell much, which is clearly evident by how late this is coming, one physical edition for PS4, and bundling both games etc.

Regardless, blood being toned down is hardly a deal breaker.

I had no idea. I guess that would make sense. Why make multiple versions if all you’re doing is lessening the gore. I mean, I think it’s still dumb, but now that I know the most likelyreasoning, it makes much more sense.

I thought the west loves blood and gore and hates anything sexual. So this is a weird censor imo.

    • CalamityCorp

That’s North America you’re describing, Europe is not as strict on sex but more on violence.

      • gamezalv

Oh ok. Fair enough. At least this won’t bother me but it’s still odd to censor gore. I mean I’m pretty sure other games have it worse than this one.

  • WillMerfi

This is stupid but I’ve been clamoring for a God Eater game for years, and we finally got it so I’m buying anyway.

  • Zero Eternity

I wonder if this will effect sales of the game during the first couple of weeks. I just really hope they don’t go completely stupid and make the blood pink.

  • Buckybuckster

Hmmmm… that’s kinda odd. Sounds like they are of the belief a “T” rating will garner more sales than a “M”. Seeing that the average age of game players these days is around 35 or so, I don’t see it having that much of an effect. Seems more likely it would have the opposite effect desired, especially considering the large non-censorship block of gamers out there.
Sheesh Bamco. If the average Westerner can handle what’s presented on T.V. and movie screens across the region, I think we are mature enough to handle a little extra blood.

  • Chizu

This is pointless. Just to reduce the rating? I really doubt the rating would have affected the sales all that much, the people who buy these kinda games are generally older anyway, and besides which, when did ratings ever stop younger players getting these games 8v

Well, I wasn’t desperate to buy this game anyway, so its a matter of wait and see for me.

  • Paradox

Im disappointed. First announced it was dubbed then only digital now this.

  • Daniel Dominguez

Yeah this is dumb, as someone mentioned, they wont sell that much, its too late to sell those versions, only fans will welcome this game and they probably already played ge2 on the psp. It had potential, unless it comes with something new and really unique it probably wont work, just anothe monster hunter clone with something of a story, which wasnt too good by the way.
