Koei Tecmo has announced the release date for their basic, free to play version of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Venus – and it’s right around the corner.

Coming off the heels of the March 24th release of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Venus in the East, we knew there was going to be a free-to-play version of the game coming this Summer – some of us (me included) couldn’t wait and ended up with the full version, but the free version might convince the rest of you….

Due out May 16th in Japan, the free version of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Venus will apparently only allow you access to Kasumi, and will seeingly not allow you to play the casino games (as there’s a “buy” option for it). That said, it will include most of the other features from the main game at no cost.

Those who want a little something more can fill the free version with additional characters for 1100 yen each (plus tax), or gain access to the casino games for 2000 yen (plus tax) as a one-time fee.  Just don’t try to buy it all though, as you’ll end up paying more than you would for the full game!

Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Venus is available now in Japan and Asia, and is a fun way to spend a few hours if you ask me. If you’re on the fence you should definitely try the free version later this month, though personally I see no reason to stop there. 😉
