At long last the absolutely wonderful tactical RPG from Sega makes it way to PlayStation Vita!

Ok, so before you ask – No, this is not a suped up, trophy enabled re-release of the classic title. It is the original PSP game, which unfortunately for some reason could only previously be downloaded to your PS Vita via the PS3 (unless of course you lived in sunny old England).

However the fact that it can now be downloaded directly off the store on to the Vita is cause for celebration as this now means that Vita owners who never had access to a PS3 can now download and experience one of the PSP’s greatest swan songs directly into the palm of their hand!

And believe you me if you have never experienced Valkyria Chronicles II before it is well worth a download!! Requiring little to no knowledge of the original PS3 game also means that newcomers to the franchise can dive right in to the action without feeling lost or confused with plot, characters etc. Of course there are a few references to the first title here and there but I promise they will never alienate or distract new players!

However if you want a bit of background info on the title, the page on the PlayStation store describes it thus, ‘The game takes place two years after the conclusion of the original game and takes you back to the epic adventure set in 1930’s fictitious Europe. In this sequel, you play as a group of young Gallian Military Academy cadets who find themselves plunged into a bitter civil war when the newly formed Gallian Revolutionary Army stages a coup. As the drama and battle unfold, you will experience stories of friendship, love and growing pains during a time of war and revolution‘.

Take it from me this is a game you do not want to miss out on and even though it was critically successful, never really found the wide audience it deserved on Western shores! Take the plunge and give it a go! it is also an absolute steal at $9.99 so you really have no excuse!

Will you be picking up Valkyria Chronicles II on your Vita? Or have you already played it and are (like me) sorely waiting for not only the third game to get localised, but also for pigs to learn the art of flying? Sound off in the comments below and keep it locked here at The Vita Lounge!

I am waiting for pigs to learn the art of flying, I’m afraid. Though, with this insurgency of psp games becoming playable, maybe we’ll get more. And hopefully, ones that weren’t on there before… like Crisis Core and Valkyrie Profile and Kingdom Hearts!

oh my gawd if KH was released on vita…. id jizz in my pants. i saw that MGS portable ops just released too! i hope Syphon filter comes out…….

      • Lester Paredes

Crap! I forgot about Syphon Filter Dark Mirror! I just went on a squeenix name dropping rampage for some reason. While I’m wishing, I’d also like Motorstorm Arctic edge to come back.

played the Japanese version of this and VC3 because i lost faith in Sega for the longest time since SoA doomed the Dreamcast (lately it’s been a different story with them though but still not up to snuff like before). i would say VC3 is the best of the bunch but the original’s expansive battlefield was a sight to behold and enjoy.

  • DCGX

Great news! I’m glad they did this a week after it was on sale…

  • chizwoz

That’s weird. I’d already got it. Bizarre to learn that it was only available cos I’m in England.

    • Ichigo Yoite

yeah that surprised me too. I’ve had this on my vita for a while now and I’m from Germany Oo

  • Giant_Z

I want Valkyria Chronicles III the western version on PS Vita

    • Lester Paredes

      Hear hear!

  • J-WaitForIt-D

I thought this article was weird because I’m in Portugal and I had the game on vita since like 2015. I guess it just wasn’t available on the US Vita store.

    • Lester Paredes

Nope. You had to do download it to a PS3 and then transfer it over, which I did ages ago. Pretty stupid if you ask me, but hey, that’s how Sony is with the vita.

  • leingod

Already had installed this on my Vita using a PS3… but nice to know you can do it directly now. Here’s hoping Pocket Fighter gets the same treatment eventually.

  • souda

  • Buckybuckster

Wow, thanx for the info! I have this already for my PSP. Nice to finally to be able to directly downloaded to my Vita. And of course will do so!
