While we had already heard that God Wars had plans to come West, it looks like NIS America will be the ones to make it actually happen – and we’ve got the details.

NIS America has announced that they’ll be the ones to bring Kadokawa Games’ strategic RPG God Wars to the West, with the title currently slated for sometime early next year. It’ll be headed to North America and Europe in both digital and physical versions, so don’t worry about getting it the way you want it. 😉

As for the game itself, I think it’s time for a story recap…

Once upon a time there was a beautiful land called Mizuho, which was made up of three nations; Fuji, Hyuga, and Izumo. The people of Mizuho valued peace and honored their ancestral spirits, living in harmony with nature. Over time however, things changed and they had to evolve – cultivating crops, forging (and using) metal, fighting wars, and destroying nature. As things progressed away from the basics, they neglected to honor their ancestral spirits. They lost their way.

Meanwhile, Mizuho becomes host to several natural disasters; flooding, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions disturbing the peacefulness of even nature. In order to stop a particularly destructive eruption, Tsukuyomi – the Queen of Mizuho – sacrifices her beloved daughter Sakuya to the mountain, and confines her other daughter Kaguya within a bamboo seal in case of future disasters. Afterwards, Tsukuyomi disappears.

Thirteen years pass by, and Princess Kaguya grows into a beautiful woman. Her childhood friend, Kintaro, ends up saving her during a riot – leading to Kaguya rebelling against her fate as a sacrifice. In order to follow her own path, Kintaro and Kaguya must escape from Fuhi and journey across the land of Mizuho to discover the truth behind the Queen’s decisions.

Will they succeed? That’s up to you…

Here are the title’s key features, according to NIS America;

  • A tale steeped in Japanese tradition – Step into Japan as you have never before seen it, and discover the wonder has that captivated orators, storytellers, and generations of people. Discover their stories, and meet the Myriad gods.
  • A wealth of customization and tactics – Customize 14 playable characters from more than 30 classes with 400+ skills and more than 250 unique pieces of equipment as you mold your party to face each new challenge.
  • Visuals from another age – Inspired by traditional Japanese ink painting and wood carving art, the artwork of God Wars will transport players to an age filled with mythology and wonder.

God Wars: Future Past is headed to North America and Europe sometime early in 2017.

    YES… very cool.

    I’m not much for strategy RPGs, but I love the style/art direction. This game is now on my radar since it’s getting a physical release.

  • Kaboom

    If it plays like I hope it will, then I’ll give it a whirl.
