It looks like PlayStation is notifying players of an upcoming Piece of Cake server shut-down, as well as some immediate changes to the game you might want to be aware of.

According to an email sent to NeoGAF member Vashetti (as well as many other players of the game), it looks like free-to-play match-3 title Fat Princess: Piece of Cake is beginning to shut down today, and will go dark shortly after we enter 2017.

The email notes that the title will be discontinued on January 1st, 2017 at 8:00 GMT – at which point you’ll be unable to spend in-game gold of any type, earn the 30 gold reward for hitting level 15, or download the game from your library. That said, you’ll be able to continue to play it in “offline mode” until you delete it from your console.

As for immediate effects, it looks like in-game purchases have already been disabled; so keep your cash!

Fat Princess: Piece of Cake was originally released on the 13th/14th of January, 2015 – meaning that the title will be going dark just under two years into its life. Did you see it coming, or are you in shock?

The fate of every F2P Game. Glad I didn’t spend any money on this.

The game had one or two cool ideas but was ultimately just another lazy Bejeweled-clone and pretty f*cking boring after playing for 30 min or more. Also: lack of support. No incentives whatsoever to keep people playing.

Eh. I 100%ed it ages ago. Sure it wasn’t particularly exciting or original, but it was a comparatively easy 100%
