White privilege as well as male privilege are real, especially when it comes to certain business areas. As a heterosexual white male, I've noticed quite often how non-white or non-male friends of mine get believed less quickly, despite sometimes saying the same thing, but that's just anecdotal. There's a lot of statistical research that shows similar things.

I also believe that some more diversity in my video games is very welcome, in all ways. Kratos is fun, but sometimes a male protagonist doesn't have to be a hypermasculine ragefest, nor does every female need to be so hot, that if you're unfamiliar with the format, you bust a nut instantly.

I like how in Overwatch for example you can play as an Egyptian security officer, a Latin American hacker, or even a Buddhist/Sikh cyborg, all the while you can also play a more classic role of a humongous German powerhouse or a sensual French widowmaker (the name just fits the trope she fits in too well).

I also like how in the Witcher, though most characters are white, there is an awesome variety of European cultures in there, with great variety of different accents in high grade voice acting. There's a shit ton of games coming out, so why not have some more 'traditional'/stereotypical protagonists, but also a good amount of non-typical choices. The more the merrier, right?

But sheesus, some of the people on whose side I'm supposed to be on either push things too far or just blow things up WAY too much.

Agreed! We sadly live in an era where everyone just loves to be offended by something.

Reminds me of a tweet the other month. Someone was giving away tickets to an event but only for the lgbt, people of colour or low earners. Needless to say it went down like a lead balloon. Im all for equality but that isn't it.

And yet society pushes issues like this too far and the average person can't even comment without getting abused. Sometimes I feel chastised just for being a non-poor educated white guy, even tho I wouldn't say boo to a goose.

Retro8bit couldn't say it any better myself, I'm getting sick of all these people b****ing around about a game without doing any research at all.

Just don't buy it and do other stuff and let the people that do like the game play it, nobody will force someone to play a games like Senran Kagura or Gal-Gun.

DojoDan and now imagine how some groups react to me, I had a fierce discussion with a woman a few years ago about games like Senran Kagura and she started to scream at me, I should wake up because this is something ANY woman shouldn't accept and that these games sexualize women.

I said I don't care because it's just a game and also that barely anybody will think this way about women, because most people playing these games know what they play.

Well... she said a man should rape me (nope I'm not joking) so that way I'll understand what such games do (because only men play games?)

And that is the most extreme example ever, but still the less extreme ones didn't end that much better (luckily the total count is just 4)

Equality doesn't exist, it's again letting specific groups do certain stuff.

Vita_Girl I do understand womens concerns with games like SK etc, but I don't see it does any good picking just on games. Films, TV, and magazines do it regularly (look at some of the junk reality TV, like Survival of the Fittest/Love Island etc). Plus, ppl look at a LOT worse online, lets face it. The way ppl treat each other is down to the individual.

Having just read something about how a Star Wars 'White male protag-only' group bullied some of the female actresses of the movies from instagram, it got me thinking about this again.

I agree that the media presence influences the way we behave and act towards others. I think however that, rather than sexualization, objectification is the real issue. Senran Kagura sexualizes, but creates proper characters, with goals, strengths, insecurities, weaknesses, and legitimate bonds. They're never presented as mere objects (like happens in a lot of pornography).

And honestly? On the flipside? The whole anti-SJW movement that supposedly tries to defend a lot of the games I like is just the fucking same story. I like Senran Kagura etc. and I think they have a right of existence. I'm on the same team, but fuck, I can't stand those people that, every time a boob shows they go 'oh, this'll be censored because of SJWs' or 'this'll never make it over because of SJWs'.

Nah, fuck that. That'll never make it over because the market for these games is relatively small, it may cost a lot of money to bring it over (they can be text heavy), so there's a simple cost/benefit analysis here.

The same goes for those hating on diversity in games. You hate that they're pandering to "leftist liberals"? Who cares, man? Compile Heart panders HARD to horny teenagers (said the married 20-something wearing a custom-made Compile Heart shirt at work), and that was fine. Why isn't it fine that other companies pander to other people?Don't like it, don't play it. It's aaall cool.

End of rant #2. Sorry, people! :D
