I have searched the forum for a thread like this and haven't found any, sorry if I repeat the topic.

My question is: what Japan-only games are not heavy on language and are worth importing? not counting Asia-english releases, only games that are in japanese but playable by people that don't understand japanese.

I have made a little list, I hope we can make it grow.

Hotline Miami is actually in English (assuming your Vita is set to English language) so that's a plus. However Hotline Miami 2 is just a download code which sucks...

Koei's Dynasty Warriors games are easy to understand, you miss out on the banter between characters but they are perfectly playable in Japanese due to how straightforward the combat controls are. The Vita received One Piece Pirate Warriors 2 and Shin Gundam Musou which were never released over here on the Vita. Plus games like Samurai Warriors 4 and Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3 actually got physical releases over there which is a nice bonus.

Most if not all rhythm action games are very easy to pick up and play - Taiko Drum Master and IA/VT are both excellent choices if you like this type of game.

    Taiko Drum Master

I see it has a lot of japanese in the menus, but gameplay itself it's based on rythm, so it's playable.

    Hotline Miami Collected Edition

I was aware it is in english, but the physical release has come out in Japan only, so I had to put it on this list.

    Koei's Dynasty Warriors games

    Shin Gundam Musou
    Shin Sangoku Musou 7 Empires
Shin Sangoku Musou 7 with Moushouden
    Sengoku Musou Chronicle 3
    Sengoku Musou 4
    Sengoku Musou 4 Empires
    Sengoku Musou 4-II
    Musou Orochi 2 Ultimate
    Sengoku Musou 4 Empires

    Missing any?

I see a lot of text in them, maybe the battles are enjoyable but you lose the history and all the explanations...

    One Piece: Kaizoku Musou 2

One Piece Pirate Warriors 2 in the West. Seems playable.

    Thanbks shadowman for the recommendations!

    Bullet Girls
Some missions require special actions, but other than that rather straight forward and fun.

    Criminal Girls
Some quests later on require you to back track, but with a translation app its easy to figure out.

Might want to mention Google translater app. It's free and will solve all menu issues. It doesn't handle story line well though because its a literal translation.

Any of them that have bewbs or rub features. Both if possible.

I honestly don't know of many import only games but I'd imagine there is a butt ton of decent jrpgs that we'll never get, unfortunately.

2D platformer. Asian version might get an english patch.

Let's Try Bass Fishing: Fish On

The only fishing game on the vita, at least phyisical. It was released digitally on the west, but cartridge only in Japan.

Bandai-Namco anime games are usually quite easy to import. I've tried a little bit of Irregular at Magic High School: Out of Order and World Trigger: Borderless Mission and found both pretty easy to play. There's also Cross Ange and Yuki Yuna is a Hero games if you're interested in them (both looked a bit crap to me). And there's an Asterisk War game coming up (although rumours are it may get an English release in Asia)

Girls Und Panzer is the easiest since someone has done a handy English guide for it, but the others aren't too bad.

Also, I wouldn't have Airship Q; Criminal Girls & Yomawari on your list. Airship Q is confirmed to get an English patch for the Asian version, so just import that. Criminal Girls is already released in English, physical too. And I would bet money on Yomawari coming out in English at some point.

Rythm game. You have to know japanese to score up placing words in the correct order during gameplay but you can manage to finish the game by rythm skills only. Plus you can print the lyrics to the songs and remember the words that you need to put on the lyrics.

    Ebikore PhotoKano Kiss

A kind of visual novel where you have to take photos during gameplay. Fun to play.

@Kresnik Indeed, Criminal Girls: Invitation has been released in EU/NA as Criminal Girls: Invite Only, but Criminal Girls 2 hasn't been released on the West, so I changed it to Criminal Girls 2 on my list.
Airship Q doesn't have the patch yet, so it's on the list until it gets the english patch.
Same for Yomawari, it's in the list until it gets an english version.

    About the others:

Irregular at Magic High School: Out of Order (Mahouka Koukou No Rettousei: Out of Order)

Do you really think that "Irregular at Magic High School: Out of Order" is playable? I see youtube videos of it with action in them but also a lot of text.......

    World Trigger: Borderless Mission

Looks similar to the Earth Defense Force games. Seems quite fun!

Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo tr.

Seems playable as well, an Evangelion ripoff

Yuki Yuna wa Yusha de Aru Jukai no Kioku

Lots of text on screen but playable. You control girls with swords and have to defeat monsters between dialogues.

Haha, I don't get your criteria for this. You've just added PhotoKano Kiss which is almost a pure VN with some slight photography gameplay and minigames, but you're worried about text in this one?

I mean, I'm not gonna lie, it has a lot of text. No more so than Girls Und Panzer or any similar Bamco anime game though. I certainly found the gameplay part fun enough - it's basically an arena-brawler, with a bit of a clunky camera, but still fun (think like J-Stars).

Since you're taking suggestions that extend up to PhotoKano Kiss though, here's some games that I haven't played but seem importable because they at least have some minor gameplay elements:

    - 3rd Super Robot Wars Z (there's actually 2 separate games with this name and different subtitles)
    - Chaos Rings 3
    - Exstetra
    - Little Battlers eXperience W
    - Love Live! School Idol Paradise
    - Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Battle Destiny
    - Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Battle Pentagram
    - Tales of Innocence R
    - To Love Ru Darkness: Battle Ecstacy
    - Ukiyo no Roushi

All of the above have various amounts of gameplay in, mostly mixed with VN sections, so whether they're worth importing is up to your own personal tastes. I left out any SRPG's because normally I find them to tricky to grasp fully.

I forgot about a couple of these - I've played Innocence R and it's fully importable, you can even use one of the walkthroughs for the DS game to follow the story. It's even easier if you've played Hearts R as it has a lot of similarities. Puella Madoka Magica is the same as any other Bamco game - VN mixed with gameplay, it's perfectly importable though. And Ukiyo no Roushi is hard work and there's very little guidance out there, but you can make it work and it's a lot of fun as an import.

    Hope that helps :)

(Oh and also, Cross Ange's full name is Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo tr.)

Yeah, I mean I want games that are fun to play and you don't have to be making random choices in japanese menus all the time

    Thanks!

Splitted the main post into playable / lots of text

EDIT: I'm watching this video about 3rd Super Robot Wars Z:

That's a perfect example of a not-playable game due to japanese texts. I mean, with PhotoKano you just pass dialogues until you are able to take photos. In this robot game you have to make tactic decisions based on on-screen data in japanese, doesn't seem fun to play at all.

Seen a couple more gameplays from your last list & they all seem to rely too much on text :/

I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree here because I don't understand your logic at all here. Photo Kano is okay because you can just skip through text and then take photos, but Cross Ange/Irregular Magic High School/Yuki Yuna is a Hero aren't okay because you have to skip through text and then fight battles? What?

I can tell you now - you'll do a lot less 'playing' in Photo Kano than you will in any of those other games, and I can legitimately say that it's not difficult to grasp something like Irregular Magic High once you've spent about 15 minutes with it. I mean, you have Girls Und Panzer on the okay list and it's exactly the same kind of game as Irregular - VN with gameplay sections!

But whatever, it's your list, I'm only here to suggest. I may have been pushing it with 3rd Super Robot Wars (however, there's a lot of translated help out there for the game) but I do genuinely think that you either add all the Bamco VN/gameplay hybrid titles or you add none of them, but it's up to you.

Miracle Girls Festival is out in about 2 weeks, it's basically a re-skinned Project Diva so should be playable.

7000 yen for 22 songs though...

Well, in comparison to other Japanese-only rhythm games from recent months...

Taiko Drum Master V: 6,145 yen, 86 songs
    IA/VT Colorful: 5,184 yen, 60 songs
Miracle Girls Festival: 7,549 yen, 22 songs

I can't recommend Hyperdimensional War: Neptune's Platoon VS SEGA HARD GIRLS (超次元大戦 ネプテューヌVSセガハードガールズ 夢の合体スペシャル, Cho Jigen Taisen Neptune VS Sega Hard Girls Yume no Gattai Special) enough!! It's literally my favorite game ever. It came out fairly recently. I don't know any Japanese but it was easy to navigate. I'd put it under "Lots of text but playable in-between dialogues" since there is a plot to it. It's a must-have in general but you'll definitely love it if you're a fan of the other Neptunia games.

I also recommend the musou game GEKI JIGEN TAG BLANC + NEPTUNE VS. ZOMBIE GUNDAN. A lot of action, very straight to the point but never boring.

This is a great thread, so many games I need to get!

ETA: Miracle Girls Festival is awesome

If you like arcadey baseball games than the Jikkyou Powerful Pro games from Konami are easy to play.
I think 4 have been released so far and one more is coming out soon.
The menus are mildly complicated so I just keep pushing the circle button until a game starts.
The gameplay is easy and fun.
